  • Laboratory diagnostic tests

    At the Ukrainian Scientific-Medical Center for Osteoporosis Problems, the following –state-of -the-art bone remodeling markers are being tested:
    - osteocalcin – bone formation marker evaluating the remodeling speed;
    - Procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (PINP) – unique bone resorption marker;
    - β-isomerized C-terminal telopeptides (β-CTx) - bone resorption marker.

Laboratory diagnostic tests

To study the hormonal regulation, the following markers are tested: intact parathyroid hormone and total Vitamin D (25-ОН Vitamin D2, 25-ОН Vitamin D3).
To study bone metabolism, the following assays are made:
- Total Calcium (albumin-bound): as the serum Calcium levels are directly associated with total Calcium concentration, this assay also studies the albumin level. If it is high or low, the laboratory technician revises (corrects) the total Calcium values;
- Ionized Calcium gives the most precise idea of free Calcium levels; - Phosphorus – together with Calcium characterizes the mineral turnover; - Magnesium – this assay is vital for a comprehensive bone state evaluation in children and pregnant women, in patients with cardiovascular, urinary tract (especially, kidney failure), endocrinological (hyper-, hypothyroidism) diseases.

At the Ukrainian Scientific-Medical Center for Osteoporosis Problems, you may get the following rheumatological markers tested:
- C-reactive protein – shows rheumatological disease activity;
- Sed rate - erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) – inflammatory marker;
- Rheumatoid factor (RF) - antibody against the patient’s own IgG. This marker diagnoses systemic connective tissue diseases, especially rheumatoid arthritis;
- Uric acid – key biochemical goat and hyperuricemia marker.

The following assays are also available:
- Lipidogram – a comprehensive blood count characterizing lipid (fatty) metabolism and including the following components: total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and atherogenic index. Elevated cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) predisposes to atherosclerosis and its complications (sudden coronary death, acute myocardial infarction, strokes, instable angina).
- LFTs (ALAT, ASAT) – screening indicators of liver cell damage.
- Urea, creatinine – kidney failure markers.

At the Ukrainian Scientific-Medical Center for Osteoporosis Problems, we use the most innovative tools for laboratory testing.
